We bought this to replace a much older APC UPS. It is doing its job. We have frequent "brown out" at our office and the UPS is keeping the PC on.
"Master" is on Battery, "Controlled" is not December 2, 2008 Kuyper@AWS (Seattle, WA USA) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
Off the bat, no real problems with the unit. As for delivery, Amazon beat delivery estimate by a full day and got it to me super fast. We installed the BE750G to replace and older unit in our wine bar to ensure that our Point of Sale computer would survive outages. Initially, I decided to put the PC on the "master" and all the peripherals on the "control" outlets. However, when I pulled power to test, the computer stayed on but all of the peripherals went off! SO BEWARE: the control outlets are on a Surge-Protect only rail and do NOT have battery backup. This is fine, but poorly documented, so caveat emptor. For instance, do not connect your monitor to the control outlets if you plan to actually see your screen during an outage! As an engineer, when I now look at the device, it makes sense as all the battery-backed outlets are on one side of the device and the "control" and surge-only outlets on the other. This is due to the internal design and where the power rails are located, but the documentation does not appear to set this expectation. I would actually like the option of "control" outlets on the battery rail and, to be honest, it's what I was expecting. So now I don't get to save that phantom power that my printer, touchscreen and other critical peripherals draw after we shut the computer down. Que sera! Life goes on.
Good for just one PC, Miss important functions October 30, 2008 Tsung (East Brunswick, NJ United States) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The software came with it, APC PowerChute Personal Edition v2.0, does not have the function that allows me to execute a command before shutdown itself. I have another Tripplite UPS with PowwerAlert software. I can make another PC to use the other outlet of same UPS, and then define at, for example, 2 mins to shutdown remote (the other) computer, and then at 3 mins to shutdown itself. It is an important and convenient function, so I can have other PC(s) sharing same UPS, just cannot figure out it is not offered at APC PE version. Some other functions are missing in this PE version too, such as sending email for different events. The UPS itself may be ok, but the software is very so so.
Safe again October 9, 2008 Gary D. Howell (San Diego, CA)
Easy to install. Software works well. I like the fact that the device also acts like several special application power strips, and that the software doubles as a power line monitor. I tested it by tripping the breaker to my house, it was re-assuring to come into my power-dead home and still find my computer running. No more hard disk crashes for me!
Good, but watch out! October 7, 2008 warrior04 (Hawaii) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
As soon as i got the ups, i read the installation directions and plugged my computer, monitor and cordless phone into the battery backup and my wireless router, dsl modem and subwoofer into the surge protection plugs. I then plugged the ups into the wall outlet and a whaling sound came from the ups and wouldnt stop. I even unplugged the ups from the wall outlet and the noise continued. After a couple of minutes, it stopped suddenly and everything seemed ok as the green light indicator turned on. Just when i thought everything was ok, i noticed that my wireless router wasnt working. Everything else was on but the router. Come to find out that the ups shorted out my router. I tried to get the ups insurance policy to replace the router, but apc said because my router wasnt damaged by a surge that they wouldnt replace it.I was disappointed when they told me that. Other than that, the ups works fine and the software monitors the battery time of the ups and you can even run tests to see if the ups is in working condition. Just remember to plug in devices one at a time with the ups plugged into the wall.
