Product Description A reissue of the 2000 Aegis and Telly award winner of reed man Marty Krystall's quartet with additional bonus DVD footage from "Krystall Klear and the Buells" from 1981 with bassist Buell Neidlinger and drumer Peter Erskine. The "plus one" is violinst/pianist Brenton Banks, expanding the group to a quintet on 4 numbers. No dialog on this video - just 60 minutes of high energy performances. Although on the 1981 10-minute bonus feature, Buell Neidlinger announces the trio.
This video offers a good video document of Marty Krystall's cd "Plays Herbie NIchols" (K2B2 2006) session. A very good group of musicians stretching with clear pleasure and respect over Nichol's 5 compositions, plus a Monk's tune (Nichols has been often compared to the great composer/pianist), Black And Tan Fantsy by Ellington and a Krystall original. Dvd adds a brief documento of Krystall '90s great trio with drummer Peter Erskine and bass player Buell Neidlinger (they recorded for k2b2 and Denon). Very good sound, good camera work. Krystall is a great player as usual. Anyone loving jazz music in the spirit of musicians like Steve Lacy - Roswell Rudd - Misha Mengelberg will enjoy this dvd as much as I do.
