Product Description
Build a better mousetrap and you can catch your opponents mouse before yours is caught! As you travel around the board, collect pieces to create your trap, then put it together and start up the whole crazy chain reaction this is no ordinary mousetrap! For 2 to 4 players.

Editorial Review
Build a better mousetrap? We dare you. Naturally, the object is to trap mice in the mousetrap, while avoiding getting trapped. By rolling the die, you proceed around the game board, collecting cheese pieces and building a mousetrap bit by bit. Once complete, you set the wheels in motion, as it were, to try to capture the opposition's mice. But this is no ordinary trap. With this contraption you start by turning the crank, that rotates the gears, that push the lever, that moves the shoe, that kicks the bucket, that sends the ball down the stairs and into the gutter, that leads to the rod that releases a second ball, that falls through the bathtub and onto the springboard, that catapults the diver into the washtub, that causes the cage to fall and--whew!--hopefully, capture a mouse. The last "mouse" left uncaptured wins --Alison Golder

They just don't make them like they used too.   January 6, 2009

This game has been fun for our 7 year-old. She has enjoyed building it and playing the game.

I'm dissapointed as a parent with the quality. Toys in general just don't seem to be made like they used to. The sections slid around once they were attached to the gameboard which made the end of the game pretty dissapointing because the trap wouldn't always fall. But the kids do like it and it was a fun trip down memory lane for my wife and I.

Buy this board game ONLY if you can answer yes to at least one of the following questions.

1. When you were young did you take pleasure in spending hours-- even days -- tinkering with old cars?
2. Do you enjoy taking apart and putting together broken items -- that never manage to work again?
3. Does frustration bring you happiness?
4. Do you have an engineering degree?

  Poor construction   December 30, 2008

I bought this game for my children, because I remembered it from my childhood. Unfortunately, the construction of the pieces hasn't improved over time. The first problem is that the boot fits too tightly on the post ~ which makes it impossible for it to swing far enough to hit the next piece. The second problem that we had was that the helping hand doesn't hit the bathtub in a way to make it tilt right, no matter how we turn it. After a frustrating game that seemed to never end (until we started using our hands to compensate for the non-functional pieces), my kids have put this game on the shelf, and will probably never touch it again.

kids love it.   December 28, 2008

My children love this game. They seem to have more fun building it and watching the action than actually playing the game. Regardless, they are thrilled with it and have taken care to put all the pieces back in the box for safekeeping.

Down side is that there are multiple pieces that if one gets lost, the game is a bust. If your children know to keep everything stored and put away when not in use, it would make a great building game for them to play. My 9 and 11 year old sons love it while my 6 yr old daughter likes to watch them play with it.

Poor quality but the kids like it   December 27, 2008

I just bought my second Mouse Trap for our kids for Christmas. They like it and this one works.

I bought my first one a year ago and a piece promptly broke, making it unusable. I could have returned it but it was not worth my time.

The directions, especially for the final moves, are like trying to figure out the tax code. "If no mouse under the trap when you are eligible to start the trap you may redeem a piece of your cheese for the chance to roll the dice and move the mouse of the opponent you choose and if he end up under the trap . . .." I am paraphrasing but it is something like that.

In the end I guess a kid should have a Mouse Trap. As suggested in other comments, it does need adult supervision. And please be careful with the fragile parts.
