I bought this as a gift for my son this Christmas, and he loves it! I spent a little while reading the reviews on several different brands and models and chose this based mostly on the comments of other buyers. Being clueless about rice cookers , I was amazed at the choices available, and all the factors to consider. This product turned out to be the right choice! In every way this rice cooker has been a winner. As soon as my son opened the box, we had it up and running. We tried brown rice first and the rice was cooked just perfectly. Every type of rice he has cooked using this product has turned out the right texture, and is fresh and clean tasting. The basmati rice was amazing! Sticky rice comes out sticky, and other types are cooked with the grains nicely separated. The keep warm feature works perfectly.

The unit is nicely made, good quality, and easy to clean. The cake baking feature is a blast! My son hasn't tried the vegetable steamer function yet, so the concern over the plastic components imparting a taste to the food isn't something we are aware of at this point. I am thankful to the reviewers who submitted their thoughts on this product; their detailed reviews helped steer me in the right direction and helped me make an informed decision. I was wanting to choose the right product for my son( who knows his rice!) and this product did not disappoint.

As an extra point, this product, because of its size and versatility, is a good choice for someone with limited kitchen space. It is a good size, not too big or small and makes plenty of rice to share. If you choose to make a smaller batch for one, the quality of the rice is the same as for a larger amount. The soup/stew, cake making and steaming functions add to the value of this product, and eliminate the need for extra kitchen stuff--a real plus in a small kitchen. Although there are cheaper rice cookers available, the quality and features of this unit are worth the extra (though reasonable)cost. I never thought of Panasonic as a brand to turn to for rice cookers. All the folks I know have chosen the more recognizable brands and I was a bit worried that this would be a poor choice. However, this product is a winner, and I recommend it without hesitation.

This thing is built like a tank. It's also idiot proof. The rice (white or brown) comes out perfectly every time. Highly recommended for kitchen incompetents and people who have a fondness for rice.

Single dad writing here... and I don't work for Amazon or anything like that. I bought this rice maker back in September of 2008... makes great rice, first time, every time. Absolutely moron-proof.

I love to cook, and I cook a lot, but one of the things that always trips me up is making rice. For some reason it intimidates me. So I've had my mind set on a rice cooker for a while and just recently, saw a recipe for bi bim bap in which you cook the entire meal right in the rice cooker. I immediately went on line and began my hunt for a solid cooker -- that could also steam. The good-great reviews for this particular make and model were pretty consistent and the poor reviews weren't as tragic as the poor reviews for some other kinds. I use the Panasonic SR-TMB10 about once a week now and every time I use it I get so excited -- easy to use, easy to clean up and the rice was perfect! p.s. After my purchase, I happened to be in my city's Chinatown and noticed a similar version of this cooker being sold in one of their major supermarkets. A good sign for sure!

Well I just used this rice cooker for 2 days and I cooked soy bean with it, steamed eggplants with it and cooked rice with it. I am so pleased how the results came out every time I cooked. Now I am eating delicious rice with kimchi, korean soy bean side dish and eggplant side dish and I am super happy about this rice cooker. Everyone should get this rice cooker when they wanna get a new one because this rice cooker rocks and rolls!!!
