It's very rare these days to buy a compilation CD with bands that I've never heard of and to fall completely in love with. Even rarer is to find a compilation CD that I can listen to from beginning to end without skipping half the bands to get to the good tracks. Shelflife Records seems to be good at producing great compilations with a lot of really fab bands. Their first compilation CD I purchased, "Whirl-Wheels," introduced me to many of my current favorite bands, like Club 8, La Buena Vida and The Crooner. "Picnic Basket" is no exception to the rule. One Night Suzan, Impossible Tymes, Chain Letter, The Melody Unit, The Maybellines, Postal Blue, and Pinkie all shine here, but there is not one flawed song on this entire CD. No throw away songs usually found on comps. So, if you're like me and find good compilation CDs to be a dying breed, definitely give "Picnic Basket" a listen. There is hope yet for pop music thanks to Shelflife.
