Matt is a wonderful instructor for me January 5, 2009

Though I haven't read this book yet, I'm sure that this book will be helpful for beginers. Matt had kindly taught me how to play pool, when I was his pool student. Matt's teaching was easy to understand even for non-native English speaker, because he taught me pool technics with many example shots.
Please enjoy Matt's teaching as I did!

I'm a woman who grew up with a pool table in her home at a time when it wasn't particularly fashionable for a girl to be a good player. But - I beat the pants off all the guys! Forty years later I picked up this book, revived my skills and well, the rest is history. With Matt Sherman's book and DVD it's like getting back on a bike. He makes it easy and fun - even for us old sharks.

Wow!! What a Fantastic Book! This book covers everything you need to play pool. Very easy to understand. I read through all of the book to find a WONDERFUL DVD in the back. The DVD follows the book, chapter by chapter and lets the reader visually picture all of Mr. Sherman's great instructions and tips. Wish I had bought this one first. Much easier to understand than any other I've read. My game has improved by leaps and bounds. I recommend this book to all pool players.

Picture Yourself Shooting Pool by Matthew Sherman looks like something else. The something else is a computer software book or trade edition of a non-pool book. It's a quality printing with a DVD (almost three hours long) in a sleeve in the back. And it only costs $29.95. An amazing price.
"Picture Yourself..." is a series (they also publish "Picture Yourself Felting Your Knitting" and other killer titles) and the topic of this volume is pool. I'm not familiar with Sherman, but he turns out to be a personable, articulate and very able instructor, both in print and on video. They (the book and the video) begin at the beginning, so a tyro can pick up a cue for the first time and open the book and not feel lost.
This would make a neat gift for someone just getting into league play or getting their first home table.
I'd like to stress the value again: stress, stress. A DVD almost three hours long and a book that's 342 pages long, in full color and very nicely printed, all for $29.95. Such a deal! (The only weak point in the whole thing is a few of the 270 photos.)
Advanced players won't benefit much from the book/video but they're not the target market here so what the hey.

I was always fascinated by the game, but never had anyone with the patience to show me step by step how much fun it could be! I always thought it was difficult and took a long time to become a good player, but this book quickly made it easy and fun to learn.
The DVD is a great bonus... which by itself would sell for the price of the book alone. The DVD content is excellent, unlike many other "Bonus" DVD's that don't add anything to what's already in the text. I've seen a lot of poorly made videos included with books. This one stands out as one of the better productions. Now, instead of being a spectator, I find myself searching out my next victim!
