Bought this item after reading other reviews on Amazon. The featherbed really adds a tough of luxury, warmth and comfort. Some of the reviews mentioned it being 5" thick and potentially a problem for fitted sheets, but we found that it fitted fine with our existing bedding and in practice does not feel overly deep. We have a firm mattress and dislike soft beds, but this layer left the same firm support of the mattress, whilst adding a little bit of warmth and comfort. Overall, would thoroughly recommend.

I'm very pleased with this featherbed. Sometimes I have to push the feathers from the center to redistribute, but it's easy to do.

PG&E, in cooperation with extremist enviornmentalist groups, keep raising our energy rates. They have declared a war-on-the-poor by forcing working families to pay a disproportionate amount of our incomes on home heating energy, and have left my family no choice. We must turn-off the heater and dress like eskimos inside our home. Mush-headed liberals like Jimmy Carter are happy that we are miserable and freezing inside our homes - they believe we are saving the planet or some such naieve nonsense. I refuse to live like a third-worlder ... so I bought the mac-daddy of all featherbeds to keep warm
This Pinzon Down featherbed is a necessity for my shivering family. With indoor temperatures hovering in the mid 50's, we huddle under covers as soon as we get home. This Pinzon (made in India ?) featherbed is the thickest, warmest that we could find. It is pure luxury and warmth ... like beds you would find in a 5-star hotel room. This beautifully designed and detailed matress topper cuddles us in soft warmth. It fits my 9" drop queen-size bed mattress perfectly and fits under deep-sided fitted sheets with ease. This featherbed is so heavy, that I could barely lift it onto my bed. The reversible feature is highlighted by red (warm-side) and light-blue (cool-side) piping - I need the warm-side-up thanks to PG&E and the CA Public Utilities Commission. But just in case Al Gore is right, and the Globe is Warming (actually the globe stopped warming in 2000 and has been cooling for the last 8 years) ... there is a cool-side to this featherbed.
I don't know why anyone would bother with some flimsy, flat, chintzey mattress topper. This Pinzon Chamonix model is the undisputed king (queen in my case) of featherbeds. Buy one NOW ! Choose to live your life like an American ... in warm luxury ... not as a victim of the enviro-nazis.
