This device not only stores and plays MP3 and WMA (Windows Media audio) files and provides FM/AM radio reception, but also records any radio broadcast--news, sports, or music--so you can play it back at a more convenient time or transfer it to a PC. Ten memory presets help you find favorite stations quickly and easily, and timer recording lets you set the Radio YourWay to record shows you'll be unable to listen to live. Recording is as simple as pressing a button, and you can even set it up to record daily or weekly programs. On playback, it's easy to fast-forward through commercials or unwanted material and rewind as often as needed. The unit offers a built-in microphone, letting you record voice (microphone frequency response extends up to 3 kHz, fine for voice recording) or create MP3 files from analog sources like cassette or CD-player outputs using the Radio YourWay's analog line-level input. Its native recording time is about 4.5 hours with the built-in 32 MB memory, but you can use an optional SD or MMC storage card to increase the recording time to nearly 40 hours (up to 288 MB between the card and the internal memory). When connected through the USB port, recorded radio or voice recordings can be transferred and stored on a computer hard drive. MP3 and WMA files from a computer can also be transferred to the Radio YourWay for playback. A special monitor function makes it possible to listen in the supplied earphones to what's being recorded, and an HD mode lets you use your 32 MB internal storage as hard-drive storage for whatever file types you need to store. The unit runs on two AAA batteries (supplied), and a DC-input jack accommodates an external power source (AC Adapter not included). Poor Recording Quality April 2, 2005

I received this as a Christmas gift in 2003. At the time, it was the only MP3 player with an AM radio. The recording capabilities were a "bonus."
As an AM/FM/MP3 player, it works fine. It doesn't offer many features as an MP3 player. As a recording device, there are several problems.
First and foremost, recordings are badly clipped, resulting in distorted sound. When I contacted tech support, they eventually admitted this was a problem, and there was no resolution.
Secondly, it records to a proprietary file format. There is a conversion utility, but it only converts this proprietary file to a wave. So, making an MP3 is a three step process (record, convert to wave, and convert to MP3).
One other major problem is battery life. The unit has the ability to "turn itself on" to record. However, that circuitry must draw a fair amount of electricity, because even if the unit hasn't been used for a few days, the batteries die quickly. However, the battery life is good when the unit is being used.
All in all, it's not a bad unit. However, in my opinion, it is overpriced for an AM/FM/MP3 unit, and the recording features don't work that well.
If recording is what you're after, you would be better served to use "Total Recorder" software (or other recording software with a scheduler) and an AM/FM radio attached to your computer's sound card. I've been doing that for months with great success.

I ordered this product because it's the only mp3 player with AM radio capability. The reception and performance are great. I only have 2 complaints. The lcd readout doesn't tell you the name and artist of your mp3s. The pc interface software blows. I spent 20 bucks to get a secure digital card reader and use that exclusively to load mp3s into the unit. What's this about a 256k card limit? I don't see anything about a limit in my manual.

I would call this a radio device. It's the most versitile radio thing I could find. It's the only radio that does what it does and includes an AM radio. It has some limitations - like maxing out at 256MB for the SD cards but it hasn't been an obsticle for me and they're cheap (only buy on sale!)- I have 2 and so far haven't even come close to filling them. I use it to record notes while I'm driving, to grab an interesting radio discussion when I hear one, record meetings and to transprot data sometimes. It's useful being able to offload meetings and lectures to my PC. I provide technical support for a library at a university and I also use it to record technical phone support calls so that I can detail it later if need arises. Just be sure to get at least 2 sets of AAA rechargable batteries - it uses batteries about average but I can go for a long time on 2 sets.
As long as you don't expect this to give your car better gas milage and help you loose weight you can't go wrong with this. I've read some of the negative reviews and for the most part those people probably just needed to buy a different product. After showing mine to other people - five either already have or are planning to buy one in the very near future.
Most useful features for me:
- AM radio
- a Pause for record
- SD cards - cheap memory.
- offloading recorded material to PC/CD.
- good MP3 player
- timed recordings for radio

I read some reports saying the pogo was okay, but behind the curve. I purchased mine, and am completely satisfied with it. I wanted to record some weekly talk show items, the programing was easy, and the playback is great. Not sure what some of the other folks were talking about. I did purchase the expanded memory version, and then bought a 256 card. Since I have the card, the expanded memory was a waste, save your money. I purchased the AC adapter and am very pleased. If you like to listen to a program on the radio, but miss it due to whatever, I highly recommend this unit.

As did another reviewer, the record feature stopped working after 3 weeks. Up to that point, I really liked the product. I'm in the process of replacing it. I found that when using NIMH batteries the use time was quite short, no more than 6 hours. With the expanded memory card the NIMH batteries don't last 2 hours. I use the external power supply to record and batteries only when listening. The speaker is for emergency use only. Reception is OK. I use it to record "Coast to Coast".It is the only product out there that does what is does and I'm sticking with it until something better comes along.
