Not worth all the trouble   December 21, 2008
Anna Scully (Malibu, CA, USA)
I was really disappointed with this product. It was difficult to set up due to the dozens of tiny screws that have to be unscrewed and then screwed back to put in the battery and also reset the base/temperature and rain gauge mechanism. After setting it all up the first time, the base couldn't find the wireless signal from the rain gauge (which was sitting right next to it). I had to unscrew all of the screws again to reset it. It took about an hour of fiddling with it, before it finally worked. I set it up outside, but when I looked at it the next morning, the signal was again lost. Never one to give up, I spent another 40 minutes, unscrewing tiny screws, resetting individual components, etc to get it to work again. By the afternoon, the signal was once again lost. I just couldn't go through with it again...and returned it to Amazon.

A few suggestions to the manufacturers:
1. Find a way to reset the components without having to deal with dozens of tiny screws each time.
2. Put an indicator on the rain gauge - this way, even if the signal gets lost with the base, you can still look at the rain gauge itself to see how much rain you had. It's silly that this can only be known through the main base.
3. Make the wireless aspect of the wireless weather system actually work!!

Rain gauge review   December 21, 2008

Excellent product does everything it says. Only drawback is it doesnt keep a record of the lowest and highest temperature. The nine day rain review could have been made 30 days, which would accomadate going away for a couple of weeks. Easy to set up and seems accurate so far. Battery replacement in the outside rain part is a little overkill.

As far as we know the rain gauge itself is fine ... it hasn't rained since we installed it! But the instruction booklet that came with the gauge is all but useless.

Easy to set up, but we keep losing the link to the temperature gauge. The rain gauge works great, however.

We've always liked this brand and have had several of these now. Our first units lasted us over 5 years or more. Well worth the money spent, as this brand is reliable and fairly easy to set up. Now that the price has come down, just about anyone can be a backyard weather man. We really like the total rain history feature, and found that some other brands don't have it, so beware. Our first units were separate: one consisting of the rain gauge, and one just for remotely monitoring temperatures in up to three places. Both were pretty pricey back then. I did not read the fine print and expected this new one to be able to use up to three remote sensors like our old one. Instead, it combines the rain gauge and one remote temperature sensor. At first I was dissapointed, but having one display unit that can show both the rain total and the outdoor and indoor temperature, (without wires or cables), is much nicer than having two separate units. Our only wish is that it could also be plugged into a power source, instead of just running on batteries. Well, maybe next time. Anyway, be sure to pick the one with the features you want and then enjoy tracking your weather!
