For 40 dollars (once you add in shipping costs) it isn't necessarily the cheapest paper lantern on the market, but it's without a doubt the best looking one. A lot easier than I expected to assemble (took 5 minutes), and once I put in three compact fluorescent bulbs, I was shocked at how bright the thing was. Obviously that has more to do with the bulbs than the lamp itself, but this lamp as the potential to brighten a room with a great white light. I was concerned about having the light concentrated in three areas like the display picture shows, but this isn't nearly as noticeable in person. It looks fantastic, has a solid base, and while the lamp itself isn't worth the price tag, I'm more than happy to shell out an extra 10 bucks for a lamp that looks as great as this. I'm considering buying a second one. The bottom line: - It's a lantern, so be gentle and don't expect durability (probably a good idea to keep out of houses with children or playful animals.) - Looks great, and well worth the price, even if it's a tad expensive. - Goes great with its smaller table-sized counterpart (I bought both, and am very glad I did.)
Great value for money July 18, 2007 K. Glover (NY, NY)
I was really impressed with how this came flat packed so small, but was really easy to assemble and resulted in a lovely looking lamp. Excellent value for money, would buy again.

Ever since I put this in my office, I've gotten at least 4 compliments on its style and the type of light it gives. It is simply perfect and SO worth the price! Oh, and I can't say how much I love the step-button feature that turns the lamp on and off. So easy when I'm walking in or out of my office with arms full.

This lamp really brightens my bedroom. It was surprisingly simple to assemble. Great value for the money. The matching table lamp is also very nice!
well worth the money May 13, 2005 nickolai stefko (pittsburgh, pa, usa) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Positives: nearly 360 degree shade coverage lets out 180 watts (3 X 60) of softened lighting (much better than the frosted arc lamp found at a different retailer) which looks very nice aesthetically, but delivers very sharp, direct light. Easy to assemble, foot switch. Negatives: only one intensity level, but light is versatile since it is very bright but not abrasive. Paper shade is flimsy, what happens when it tears? I guess you just get another lamp. Very nice lamp, highly recommended.
