Amazon.com Product Description Thanks to a new, long-lasting LED light engine, the full HD (1920 x 1080p) picture of the HL-T6189S DLP HDTV will last as long as the set. An ultra-thin, piano-black bezel around the 61" screen lets you enjoy more screen and less frame. Its slim depth, light weight and hidden speaker system allow the set to fit where others won't. Samsung Cinema Smooth light engine delivers the widest range of brilliant colors, while a 10,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio renders every picture in perfect detail, from the darkest darks to brightest whites, and every tone in between. SRS TruSurround XT delivers sound that is clear and full. The HLT generation of Samsung DLP HDTVs are capable of displaying future 3D games, movies, and other programming via 3D compatible glasses and hardware. LED (Light Emitting Diode) for modern color realization Samsung's new LED light engine replaces the arc lamp & color wheel design of previous DLP HDTVs, and realizes beautiful color. LED will last the life of the TV. Samsung LED DLP TVs eliminate the need to replace the consumable lamps every few years, and thus have less impact on the environment and on one's wallet. Samsung's LED light engine makes possible an Ultra-Wide Color Gamut that exceeds the NTSC defined color space spec for richer color than you've seen before on TV. Samsung DLP HDTVs with an LED engine are more energy efficient than similar sized flat panel displays, and the lack of a moving color whell in the design means they perform with less noise than any previous DLP HDTV design. 10,000:1 contrast ratio Two of the most important factors in overall picture quality contrast and brightness achieve new heights by capturing blacker blacks and crisper whites. Cinema Smooth Light Engine Samsung Cinema Smooth light engine is the culmination of years of industry-leading research and development. It releases the maximum power of the new generation of DMD microdisplays for the most film-like picture. It creates an image with no visible pixel structure and accurate shading and better low-light detail.
My Color Control You can get the pink tones, the green of the grass and the blue of the sky just the way you like, without affecting the other colors on the screen. The three major colors can be adjusted to perfectly fit your taste. Self expression meets display perfection.
Audio Wattage Get quality sound aided by 10W x 2 audio output. An auto volume leveler keeps audio volume consistent during channel changing to minimize static sound bursts.
Next Generation DLP Chips from Texas Instruments DLP TV by Samsung employs a Texas Instrument DLP chip that is comprised of millions of microscopic mirrors. The DLP chip is faster than any HDTV technology, with the mirrors switching on & off 15,000 times a second to deliver a razor-sharp picture for fast moving images. When combined with Samsung new Cinema Smooth light engine, the result is a crisp, bright picture with deep, rich colors that's closer to film.
| Samsung DNle - Digital Natural Image engine Samsung exclusive Digital Natural Image engine makes the sharpest and clearest images possible, regardless of the profile of input signals. Five image processors and a six-times density enhancer ensure the best picture from any source. DNle guarantees the truest colors and highest contrast. SRS TruSurround XT Samsung HDTVs are equipped with the best that technology can offer in sound quality. Even when viewing regular broadcasts, our 2 speaker surround sound makes you feel as if the theatre has been brought to your living room.
Parental Control Samsung HDTVs come equipped with a V-Chip which enables parental control for channel and program blocking for all TV programs that incorporate the rating code signal.
PC Compatible A Samsung HDTV using DLP technology can also function as a high quality WUXGA PC monitor
New Slim Depth With it's new slimmer design, your options on where to place your Samsung DLP HDTV have become much broader.
3 HDMI inputs Three HDMI inputs address both pure digital audio and video performance and simplifies connections from the new generation set-top boxes and DVD players by reducing cable connections to one cable and plug. 1080p format is accepted.

Customer Reviews Read 3 more reviews... not perfect but then no tv really is December 31, 2007 Dave Baerg (trail, bc, Canada) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
While color, geometry, contrast, and user flexibility excel on this set there are but 2 areas that it does not. Rainbows are still there to people who see them. Generally, people who wear eyeglasses. Wearing bifocals is worse. I fall into the latter catagory but they don't bug me. Secondly, this set falls short of producing inky blacks in scenes which have a lot of dark in them. The blacks don't "crush" per se but have a haze over them. In high contrast scenes the blacks look perfect. Would I buy it again? In a heartbeat. And I watch a lot of dark sci-fi. I don't think that DLP technology can be beat for the best skin tones, reproducing movement [remember, the speed here is in microseconds, not milliseconds like Lcd], ease of moving the tv, and the LED engine is icing on the cake. Bright, quiet, fast turn-on times, and cheap on power. No tv is perfect, but I love mine.
Audio optical output for HDMI December 21, 2007 F. Parrish (Aliso Viejo, CA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
For those of you looking forward to using the audio optical output to connect to your receiver, beware that the 87 series will only output HDMI audio to the standard audio jacks. You would need to look at the 89 series to optical out with HDMI.
Best DLP ever!!! November 14, 2007 Lester S. Palinkas (Langhorne, PA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This DLP HDTV has better picture and more user options than any on the market. After the initial setup screen and channel search it displayed the first HD channel and it's a good thing that I was sitting down, I could not take my eyes off of it. Crystal clear display! There were three of us in the room and we all said, WOW! The big pluses of this TV are: 1. Never have to replace any bulbs ($300.00/bulb) it's all LED. 2. No color wheel to cause any rainbow effect. 3. The latest HDMI 1.3 interface, supports the highest resolution. 4. Bluetooth enabled to support various devices.
Nightmare TV; Horrible Samsung customer service November 2, 2007 Todd R. Solomon (San Jose, CA United States) 15 out of 31 found this review helpful
Where do I start? I bought this TV in late July, and immediately had problems when it arrived early August. When watching 1080p movies on my HD-DVD player and PS3, certain scenes would have screen defects. A white strobing would superimpose over the image, almost as if a flashbulb went off every second or so. This is not the common "snow flake" shimmering that you will see often, with hi-def sources. I also have a new Sharp LCD HDTV, that doesn't have the problem. Samsung responded by sending out a tech to fix the problem, 4 times over a 3 month period. After the third visit, the TV no longer turned on at all. In other words, the tech made it worse. I requested a refund or exchange, and they denied it repeatedly, until finally agreeing to exchange it after their 4th failed attempt to fix it, in late October! Mind you, I had a non-functional TV for 3 months now! With 3 young children and my wife at home, no TV in the family room has been extremely frustrating. It took them 2 weeks to get the paperwork processed to approve the exchange, only to tell me it was on back order, and I would have to wait until December to get my TV! Remember that my old TV broke in mid-July, and I ordered this TV in late July, 5 months before I would get an exchange TV. Enough!!! Only after initiating a dispute with Mastercard, Amazon, and threatening legal action did Samsung finally agree to a refund. But, I won't receive the refund for approximately 4 weeks!!!!! Fine, I just bought a Toshiba from Crutchfield (30 day return policy, no questions asked). Amazon's partner retailers typically only offer a 30 day EXCHANGE on TVs, but only after the MANUFACTURER agrees. Well, Samsung wouldn't agree to an exchange, so I won't ever buy a TV from that partner retailer or Samsung again. I can't wait for Samsung to pick up this pile of junk. And by the way, if you think that I just got a defective TV, let me tell you that all TVs of this model have this strobing defect. I took my HD-DVD player to a local TV store, and they let me test it on 5 TVs. Guess what? Both the Samsung LCD and HLT6189S in their showroom had the strobing defect. I finally played with all of the adjustments that the Samsung tech supposedly did, and found that the flickering only goes away in "movie" picture mode. It is Samsung's image processing algorithms that cause the strobing - very dissappointing that they would release a product clearly not ready for the market. All Samsung TVs are suspect. So, save yourself the risk of insanity, run away! Do not buy this TV!!!
